Lincoln City and Bradford City Bringing Communities Together

At a time when racism is on the rise in the game, it is good to hear stories about how football can bring diverse communities together through shared history and conversation. Watch this feel-good short film about women supporters from Lincoln City and Bradford City — “When Football Unites: Lady Imps and Bangla Bantams Cultural Exchange” — funded by the Football Supporters Federation.

This is a powerful example of peacebuilding at the relational level which can be illustrated by two Pillars of Positive Peace (IEP): Acceptance of the Rights of Others and Good Relations with Neighbours. By creating spaces where fans of different ethnicities and religions can share stories — and cooking lessons — this initiative builds the mutual respect and tolerance necessary for a peaceful society. Furthermore, the shared moment of reflection at the Bradford City fire memorial fosters deep emotional connection, rooted in a shared historical tragedy, which transcends cultural differences and reinforces the social cohesion that underpins cultural and structural change in the long run.
